Vodafone Digital Award 2023 - SpaceBuzz Hungary Foundation

VODAFONE DIGITAL AWARDS

14, JUNE, 2023, BUDAPEST, HUNGARY

An app to help educate the youngest children on financial awareness, automated solutions to support farmers and a digital platform that predicts flight delays and cancellations on a data basis are among the winners of this year's Vodafone Digital Award, presented on 14 June at the Stopper Swimming Pool.

Vodafone Hungary Foundation presented the Vodafone Digital Award for the best digital innovations for the fifth time, with a total prize money of HUF 15 million. This year, 107 entries were received for the innovation competition, and the jury assessed the entries in three categories - SME Digitalisation, Fintech, Sustainable Energy.

Dr. Charaf Hassan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Vodafone Hungary Foundation, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics at the (BME, - Budapesti Műszaki Egyetem), stressed that the Vodafone Digital Award was not primarily aimed at profit, but at achieving business success. This year, the jury was again looking at the impact of each submission on society and the environment and how they respond to the most important issues currently facing society.

In his speech, Dr. Károly Balázs Solymár, Deputy State Secretary for Energy Infocommunications, underlined that the Digital Award is a unique initiative of its kind. As he said, the digitisation of SMEs is a long-standing backlog of the country. While Hungary is among the world leaders in digital infrastructure, the same cannot be said for the digitisation of small and medium-sized enterprises. Yet in many cases, this would be the right tool to replace the daily "survival" problems with an advanced solution.

Highlighting the positive examples of previous winners, Emőke Flakstad, CEO of the Vodafone Hungary Foundation, said that this year they were looking for initiatives that are almost invisibly integrated into our everyday lives and help them. Vodafone believes that the nearly 40 entries that have been awarded so far represent a value that is worth sharing with each other. As an important step in continuous improvement, an alumni programme is being launched where previous winners can share their knowledge, experience, best practices and technologies.
