Thermal Energy from Using Snow
Thermal Energy from Using Snow
In regions with northern latitudes or remote areas, such as Antarctica, where snow is plentiful, but conventional fuel sources are scarce, utilizing snow as a fuel source becomes immensely valuable. Waterbender - Arctic Technology provides a solution by harnessing snow to generate heat.
Waterbender – Arctic Technology is a 40-foot containerized installation that utilizes snow and a minimal amount of electricity (4 kWh) as its energy source. The unit generates 60 kW of thermal energy, efficiently heating water to a temperature of 60 degrees Celsius. When paired with alternative energy sources like wind generators, the facility relies exclusively on snow as a heat source, consuming 6 m³ per hour.
The
installation operates as a heat pump under precisely engineered thermodynamic
conditions, enabling the extraction of hot water from snow at a ratio of 1:10.
This means that each unit of hot water produced requires ten times the volume
of snow or ice. Nevertheless, this process yields a sufficient amount of hot
water to heat large spaces and meet diverse water-related needs.
Notably, the Waterbender - Arctic Technology installation
requires no additional consumables, making it a self-sustaining solution.
